Claudia Calder, originally from Kingston Jamaica, holds a BA in psychology from Hampton University, MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Hampton, and PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Auburn University. Claudia has been a therapist for the past 7 years working in different clinical settings (i.e. residential, in-home and school based) providing service to individuals with different mental health and behavioral diagnosis. Her passion and advocacy efforts surround multiculturalism, which motivated her to serve as President for the Alabama Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development.
Claudia takes care of her mental health by ensuring that she takes time to herself after a long day of work. Working in the mental health field with clients that suffer various types of trauma can often lead to burnout and vicarious trauma. Therefore, she is intentional about “stepping away” from the job and engaging in activities she enjoys.
